The GPD Duo is coming soon and we were able to try a pre-production model ahead of its release. In our GPD Duo review we cover the dual screen laptops operation, identify some issues that will be fixed by the final model, and run some benchmarks to find out the awesome AMD Ryzen 9 AI 370 HX processors performance.

Let’s kick off this GPD Duo review by diving into the dual displays and the different modes it offers.

The GPD Duo dual screen laptop measures about 11.6 x 8.2 x 0.9 inches (29.7 × 20.9 × 2.3 cm) when completely closed, and it weighs approximately 2.27 kilograms (5 lbs). It’s relatively heavy, especially compared to models like the GPD Win MAX 2, which weighs less than half as much.

Opening the Duo reveals the two displays. Both the upper and lower screens can be adjusted independently to suit your preferences, and there’s a kickstand at the back for additional support.

When fully unfolded to the standard angle, the dual screen laptop stands about 13.7 inches (35 cm) in height.

The upper screen can also fold backward into a presentation mode, displaying on both sides. In this position, the device stands about 8.8 inches (22.5 cm) tall. Lastly, the GPD Duo can also be used in tablet mode by folding the device completely, using the top screen as a tablet display. In this mode, it is about 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) thick.

It’s worth mentioning that in presentation and tablet modes, the top screen can feel a little loose. GPD has confirmed they’ll add a magnet in the final production model to address this.

We continue the GPD Duo review with a look at the rest of the laptop. The screens themselves are 13.3-inch AMOLED touch displays with a 2880×1800 resolution at 60Hz. The visual quality is outstanding, particularly when HDR is enabled, offering a clear and vibrant display perfect for various tasks such as work, media consumption, and gaming.

GPD Duo supports Surface Pen and GPD stylus

For those focused on productivity, both displays support the GPD stylus and Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. I’m no artist, but for designers, this feature will likely be a significant benefit.

The upper display also supports video input via USB-C, allowing you to connect other devices like gaming consoles, laptops, or smartphones. The GPD Duo can run Windows on the bottom display simultaneously, and the upper screen can still function even if the laptop is powered down.

Design and Features

Next in our GPD Duo review we cover the design and features of the device. The GPD Duo dual display laptop includes a full QWERTY keyboard, which is backlit and can be toggled on and off. The keys are spacious and have a low profile, providing a comfortable typing experience. I used it to write this review and found it quite responsive. While I’m generally not a fan of trackpads, I had no issues with this one—it’s smooth and offers solid left and right clicks.

On the left side, there’s a 3.5mm audio jack, a full-size SD card slot, a USB 4 port, and a USB Type-C port. On the right, you’ll find two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and the power button, which has a built-in fingerprint scanner. At the back, there’s a 2.5Gbps ethernet port, an OCuLink port for connecting to an eGPU like the GPD G1, and an HDMI port for external monitors.

The GPD Duo can support up to two additional displays through its USB and HDMI ports, allowing for a four-screen setup. Adding the GPD G1 eGPU docking station expands that capability to six screens.

In this section, we’ll look at the specs for both models of the GPD Duo dual screen laptop, as well as tests we conducted for battery life, fan noise, and temperatures as part of our GPD Duo review.

Processor Options

AMD Ryzen 7 8840U Model: 8 cores, 16 threads, with a base clock of 3.3 GHz and a maximum boost of 5.1 GHz. AI processing: 16 TOPS, total performance: 38 TOPS, with a TDP of 28W to 35W.
AMD Ryzen 9 AI HX 370 Model: 12 cores, 24 threads, base clock of 2.0 GHz, and maximum boost of 5.1 GHz. AI processing: 50 TOPS, total performance: 80 TOPS, with a TDP of 35W to 60W.

Specifications

Displays: Two 13.3″ AMOLED, 2880×1800 resolution, 60Hz, 16:10 aspect ratio, 255 PPI, 133% sRGB coverage, 500 nits brightness.

Performance Tests: Battery, Fan Noise, and Temperature

Next in our GPD Duo review we run our own battery life, fan noise and temperature tests. The GPD Duo laptop with dual screens comes with an 80Wh battery capable of fast charging. In our tests, using the default 28W TDP and full screen brightness on full CPU load running Cinebench, we achieved about 1 hour 45 minutes of battery life with both displays active. Disabling the top screen extended this to 2 hours, a difference of roughly 15 minutes. We’ll conduct additional tests on idle and average usage for the final model review.

We also measured fan noise during the battery test. Under moderate load, the fans generated about 55dB of noise, increasing to 60dB under heavy workloads. While running Cinebench and Forza Horizon 5, the highest temperature recorded was around 50°C.

System Benchmarks

As part of our GPD Duo review we ran some system benchmarks to measure its performance and compare to other products. It’s important to note that these tests were performed on a pre-production unit, and final benchmarks may differ once the final GPD Duo model is available. All tests were conducted at the default 28W TDP, with plans to test higher TDPs in our final model review.

Score: 7,788, a 10% improvement over the GPD WIN MAX 2 2024 model..

Geekbench 6

Single-core: 5,852
Multi-core: 14,107
This represents a 133% and 24% improvement, respectively, over previous best scores.

Cinebench R23

Modest improvements in single-core performance and a 47% increase in multi-core performance over the GPD WIN 4.

Notable gains across the board compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and Intel Ultra 7 models.

Gaming Benchmarks

For gaming, we’ll provide a more detailed analysis, including tests with the GPD G1 eGPU in the second part of this GPD Duo review. But here are a few highlights:

Forza Horizon 5

720P: 151 FPS
1080P: 118 FPS
This marks an 11% to 20% improvement over the WIN 4 2024.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

720P: 135 FPS
1080P: 83 FPS
This represents a 21% to 31% increase in performance compared to the WIN 4.

Final Thoughts

We will sum up our GPD Duo review with our thoughts. After spending several days with the GPD Duo laptop with two screens, I’m quite impressed. While it took some time to adjust to the vertical dual-screen orientation, it quickly became second nature as I used the device for work, gaming, and general tasks. Despite a few minor issues, like the loose screen in certain modes, which GPD plans to fix, the Duo performs exceptionally well for day-to-day tasks and gaming.

The only downside I encountered was the weight. At over 2kg, it’s heavier than other portable options, and when paired with the GPD G1, carrying it around can be cumbersome. However, if you’re looking for a versatile, dual-screen laptop with solid performance, the GPD Duo is definitely worth considering.

Ytelsestester: Batteri, viftestøy og temperatur

I den neste testen av GPD Duo kjører vi våre egne tester av batterilevetid, viftestøy og temperatur. GPD Duo bærbar PC med to skjermer leveres med et 80Wh-batteri som kan hurtiglades. I testene våre, med standard 28 W TDP og full lysstyrke på skjermen med full CPU-belastning i Cinebench, oppnådde vi ca. 1 time og 45 minutters batterilevetid med begge skjermene aktive. Ved å deaktivere den øverste skjermen økte dette til 2 timer, en forskjell på omtrent 15 minutter. Vi vil utføre flere tester på inaktiv og gjennomsnittlig bruk for den endelige modellanmeldelsen.

Vi målte også viftestøyen under batteritesten. Under moderat belastning genererte viftene ca. 55 dB støy, som økte til 60 dB under tung arbeidsbelastning. Under kjøring av Cinebench og Forza Horizon 5 var den høyeste temperaturen som ble registrert, rundt 50 °C.

Vi vil oppsummere vår GPD Duo-anmeldelse med våre tanker. Etter å ha tilbrakt flere dager med GPD Duo laptop med to skjermer, er jeg ganske imponert. Det tok litt tid å venne seg til den vertikale dobbeltskjermorienteringen, men det ble raskt en selvfølge etter hvert som jeg brukte enheten til arbeid, spill og generelle oppgaver. Til tross for noen mindre problemer, som den løse skjermen i visse moduser, som GPD har planer om å fikse, fungerer Duo eksepsjonelt godt for daglige oppgaver og spilling.

Nella nostra recensione del GPD Duo eseguiamo i nostri test sulla durata della batteria, sul rumore della ventola e sulla temperatura. Il portatile GPD Duo con doppio schermo è dotato di una batteria da 80Wh in grado di ricaricarsi rapidamente. Nei nostri test, utilizzando il TDP predefinito di 28W e la luminosità dello schermo a pieno carico della CPU con Cinebench, abbiamo ottenuto circa 1 ora e 45 minuti di autonomia con entrambi gli schermi attivi. Disattivando lo schermo superiore abbiamo raggiunto le 2 ore, con una differenza di circa 15 minuti. Effettueremo ulteriori test sull’utilizzo inattivo e medio per la recensione finale del modello.

Abbiamo anche misurato il rumore delle ventole durante il test della batteria. Con un carico moderato, le ventole hanno generato un rumore di circa 55dB, che è salito a 60dB con un carico di lavoro elevato. Durante l’esecuzione di Cinebench e Forza Horizon 5, la temperatura massima registrata è stata di circa 50°C.

Pensieri finali

Riassumiamo la nostra recensione del GPD Duo con le nostre considerazioni. Dopo aver trascorso diversi giorni con il portatile GPD Duo con due schermi, sono rimasto molto colpito. Sebbene ci sia voluto un po’ di tempo per abituarsi all’orientamento verticale del doppio schermo, questo è diventato rapidamente una seconda natura mentre utilizzavo il dispositivo per lavorare, giocare e svolgere attività generali. Das GPD Duo kommt bald auf den Markt und wir konnten ein Vorserienmodell bereits vor seiner Veröffentlichung testen. In unserem GPD Duo Testbericht gehen wir auf die Bedienung des Laptops mit zwei Bildschirmen ein, identifizieren einige Probleme, die im endgültigen Modell behoben werden, und führen einige Benchmarks durch, um die fantastische Leistung der AMD Ryzen 9 AI 370 HX Prozessoren zu ermitteln.

Beginnen wir diesen GPD Duo Test mit einem Blick auf die beiden Displays und die verschiedenen Modi, die es bietet.

Der GPD Duo Laptop mit zwei Bildschirmen misst in geschlossenem Zustand etwa 11,6 x 8,2 x 0,9 Zoll (29,7 × 20,9 × 2,3 cm) und wiegt etwa 2,27 Kilogramm (5 lbs). Das ist relativ schwer, vor allem im Vergleich zu Modellen wie dem GPD Win MAX 2, das weniger als halb so viel wiegt.

Für diejenigen, die sich auf Produktivität konzentrieren, unterstützen beide Displays den GPD-Stift und den Surface Pen mit 4096 Stufen der Druckempfindlichkeit. Ich bin kein Künstler, aber für Designer wird diese Funktion wahrscheinlich ein großer Vorteil sein.

Design und Eigenschaften

Im nächsten Abschnitt unseres GPD Duo Testberichts befassen wir uns mit dem Design und den Funktionen des Geräts. Der GPD Duo Laptop mit zwei Bildschirmen verfügt über eine vollständige QWERTZ-Tastatur, die beleuchtet ist und ein- und ausgeschaltet werden kann. Die Tasten sind geräumig und haben ein niedriges Profil, was ein komfortables Tippen ermöglicht. Ich habe sie benutzt, um diesen Testbericht zu schreiben und fand sie recht reaktionsschnell. Obwohl ich generell kein Fan von Trackpads bin, hatte ich mit diesem keine Probleme – es ist geschmeidig und bietet solide Links- und Rechtsklicks.

Auf der linken Seite befinden sich eine 3,5-mm-Audiobuchse, ein SD-Kartensteckplatz in voller Größe, ein USB-4-Anschluss und ein USB Typ-C-Anschluss. Auf der rechten Seite finden Sie zwei USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 Anschlüsse und die Einschalttaste mit integriertem Fingerabdruckscanner. Auf der Rückseite befinden sich ein 2.5Gbps-Ethernet-Anschluss, ein OCuLink-Anschluss für die Verbindung mit einer eGPU wie der GPD G1 und ein HDMI-Anschluss für externe Monitore.

Leistungstests: Akku, Lüftergeräusch und Temperatur

Als nächstes führen wir in unserem GPD Duo Test unsere eigenen Tests zu Akkulaufzeit, Lüftergeräusch und Temperatur durch. Das GPD Duo Notebook mit zwei Bildschirmen ist mit einem 80-Wh-Akku ausgestattet, der sich schnell aufladen lässt. In unseren Tests erreichten wir mit der Standard-TDP von 28 W und voller Bildschirmhelligkeit bei voller CPU-Last mit Cinebench eine Akkulaufzeit von etwa 1 Stunde und 45 Minuten, wenn beide Bildschirme aktiv waren. Die Deaktivierung des oberen Bildschirms verlängerte die Laufzeit auf 2 Stunden, ein Unterschied von etwa 15 Minuten. Für den endgültigen Test des Modells werden wir weitere Tests zum Leerlauf und zur durchschnittlichen Nutzung durchführen.

Wir haben auch das Lüftergeräusch während des Akkutests gemessen. Bei mäßiger Last erzeugten die Lüfter ein Geräusch von ca. 55 dB, das bei starker Auslastung auf 60 dB anstieg. Bei der Ausführung von Cinebench und Forza Horizon 5 lag die höchste gemessene Temperatur bei etwa 50°C.

System-Benchmarks

Im Rahmen unseres GPD Duo-Tests haben wir einige System-Benchmarks durchgeführt, um die Leistung des Geräts zu messen und es mit anderen Produkten zu vergleichen. Bitte beachten Sie, dass diese Tests mit einem Vorseriengerät durchgeführt wurden und die endgültigen Benchmarks abweichen können, sobald das endgültige GPD Duo-Modell verfügbar ist. Alle Tests wurden mit der Standard-TDP von 28 W durchgeführt, wobei wir planen, in unserem endgültigen Testbericht höhere TDPs zu testen.

Letzte Überlegungen

Wir fassen unseren GPD Duo Test mit unseren Gedanken zusammen. Nachdem ich einige Tage mit dem GPD Duo Laptop mit zwei Bildschirmen verbracht habe, bin ich ziemlich beeindruckt. Es dauerte zwar eine Weile, bis ich mich an die vertikale Ausrichtung mit zwei Bildschirmen gewöhnt hatte, aber als ich das Gerät zum Arbeiten, Spielen und für allgemeine Aufgaben nutzte, wurde es schnell zur zweiten Natur. Trotz einiger kleinerer Probleme, wie z.B. dem Wackeln des Bildschirms in bestimmten Modi, die GPD beheben will, eignet sich das Duo hervorragend für alltägliche Aufgaben und Spiele.

Der einzige Nachteil, den ich feststellen musste, war das Gewicht. Mit über 2 kg ist es schwerer als andere tragbare Optionen, und in Kombination mit dem GPD G1 kann das Mitführen des Geräts mühsam sein. Wenn Sie jedoch ein vielseitiges Notebook mit zwei Bildschirmen und solider Leistung suchen, ist das GPD Duo definitiv eine Überlegung wert.

Prestatietests: Batterij, ventilatorgeluid en temperatuur

Vervolgens voeren we in onze GPD Duo review onze eigen batterijlevensduur, ventilatorgeluid en temperatuurtest uit. De GPD Duo laptop met dubbele schermen wordt geleverd met een 80Wh batterij die snel kan worden opgeladen. In onze tests, met de standaard 28W TDP en volledige schermhelderheid bij volledige CPU-belasting met Cinebench, haalden we ongeveer 1 uur en 45 minuten batterijduur met beide schermen actief. Het uitschakelen van het bovenste scherm verlengde dit naar 2 uur, een verschil van ongeveer 15 minuten. We zullen aanvullende tests uitvoeren op inactiviteit en gemiddeld gebruik voor de uiteindelijke modelbeoordeling.

We hebben ook het ventilatorgeluid gemeten tijdens de batterijtest. Bij matige belasting produceerden de ventilatoren ongeveer 55 dB aan geluid, wat toenam tot 60 dB bij zware belasting. Tijdens het uitvoeren van Cinebench en Forza Horizon 5 was de hoogst gemeten temperatuur rond de 50°C.

Systeembenchmarks

Als onderdeel van onze GPD Duo review hebben we een aantal systeembenchmarks uitgevoerd om de prestaties te meten en te vergelijken met andere producten. Laatste gedachten

We vatten onze GPD Duo review samen met onze gedachten. Na enkele dagen te hebben doorgebracht met de GPD Duo laptop met twee schermen, ben ik behoorlijk onder de indruk. Hoewel het even duurde voordat ik gewend was aan de verticale oriëntatie met twee schermen, werd het al snel een tweede natuur toen ik het apparaat gebruikte voor werk, gamen en algemene taken. Ondanks een paar kleine problemen, zoals het losse scherm in bepaalde modi, die GPD van plan is op te lossen, presteert de Duo uitzonderlijk goed voor dagelijkse taken en gaming.

Het enige nadeel was het gewicht. Met meer dan 2kg is hij zwaarder dan andere draagbare opties en in combinatie met de GPD G1 kan het onhandig zijn om hem mee te nemen. Als je echter op zoek bent naar een veelzijdige laptop met twee schermen en goede prestaties, dan is de GPD Duo zeker het overwegen waard.

GPD Duo kommer snart och vi fick möjlighet att prova en förproduktionsmodell innan den släpptes. Prestandatester: Batteri, fläktljud och temperatur

Nästa steg i vår GPD Duo-recension är att vi kör våra egna tester av batteritid, fläktljud och temperatur. Den bärbara datorn GPD Duo med dubbla skärmar levereras med ett 80Wh-batteri som kan snabbladdas. I våra tester, med standard 28W TDP och full ljusstyrka på skärmen med full CPU-belastning och Cinebench, uppnådde vi cirka 1 timme och 45 minuters batteritid med båda skärmarna aktiva. Genom att inaktivera den övre skärmen förlängdes detta till 2 timmar, en skillnad på ungefär 15 minuter. Vi kommer att utföra ytterligare tester på tomgång och genomsnittlig användning för den slutliga modellgranskningen.

Slutliga tankar

Vi kommer att sammanfatta vår GPD Duo-recension med våra tankar. Efter att ha tillbringat flera dagar med den bärbara GPD Du o-datorn med två skärmar är jag ganska imponerad. Även om det tog lite tid att anpassa sig till den vertikala dubbelskärmsorienteringen, blev det snabbt en andra natur när jag använde enheten för arbete, spel och allmänna uppgifter. Trots några mindre problem, som den lösa skärmen i vissa lägen, som GPD planerar att åtgärda, fungerar Duo exceptionellt bra för dagliga uppgifter och spel.

Tests de performance : Batterie, bruit du ventilateur et température

Dans la suite de notre évaluation du GPD Duo, nous effectuons nos propres tests de durée de vie de la batterie, de bruit du ventilateur et de température. L’ordinateur portable GPD Duo avec double écran est équipé d’une batterie de 80Wh capable de se charger rapidement. Lors de nos tests, en utilisant le TDP par défaut de 28W, la luminosité maximale de l’écran et la charge maximale du CPU en exécutant Cinebench, nous avons obtenu une autonomie d’environ 1 heure 45 minutes avec les deux écrans actifs. La désactivation de l’écran supérieur a porté ce chiffre à 2 heures, soit une différence d’environ 15 minutes. Nous effectuerons des tests supplémentaires en mode veille et en utilisation moyenne pour l’évaluation finale du modèle.

Nous avons également mesuré le bruit des ventilateurs pendant le test de la batterie. Sous une charge modérée, les ventilateurs ont généré un bruit d’environ 55 dB, qui est passé à 60 dB sous une charge de travail élevée. Lors de l’exécution de Cinebench et de Forza Horizon 5, la température la plus élevée enregistrée était d’environ 50°C.

Benchmarks du système

Dans le cadre de notre évaluation de la GPD Duo, nous avons effectué quelques tests de référence pour mesurer ses performances et les comparer à celles d’autres produits. Il est important de noter que ces tests ont été effectués sur une unité de pré-production, et que les résultats finaux peuvent différer une fois que le modèle GPD Duo final sera disponible. Réflexions finales

Nous allons résumer notre examen du GPD Duo en vous faisant part de nos impressions. Après avoir passé plusieurs jours avec l’ordinateur portable GPD Duo à deux écrans, je suis assez impressionné. Bien qu’il m’ait fallu un certain temps pour m’adapter à l’orientation verticale du double écran, celle-ci est rapidement devenue une seconde nature à mesure que j’utilisais l’appareil pour le travail, les jeux et les tâches générales. Som det næste i vores GPD Duo-anmeldelse kører vi vores egne tests af batterilevetid, blæserstøj og temperatur. Den bærbare GPD Duo med to skærme leveres med et 80Wh-batteri, der kan oplades hurtigt. I vores test, hvor vi brugte standard 28W TDP og fuld lysstyrke på skærmen med fuld CPU-belastning og kørte Cinebench, opnåede vi ca. 1 time og 45 minutters batterilevetid med begge skærme aktive. Vi vil opsummere vores GPD Duo-anmeldelse med vores tanker. Efter at have brugt flere dage med den bærbare GPD Duo med to skærme er jeg ret imponeret. Pruebas de rendimiento: Batería, ruido del ventilador y temperatura

A continuación, en nuestro análisis del GPD Duo, realizamos nuestras propias pruebas de duración de la batería, ruido del ventilador y temperatura. El portátil GPD Duo con doble pantalla viene con una batería de 80 Wh capaz de cargarse rápidamente. En nuestras pruebas, utilizando el TDP por defecto de 28W y el brillo de pantalla al máximo con carga completa de CPU ejecutando Cinebench, conseguimos alrededor de 1 hora y 45 minutos de duración de la batería con ambas pantallas activas. Como parte de nuestro análisis del GPD Duo, hemos realizado algunas pruebas comparativas del sistema para medir su rendimiento y compararlo con otros productos. GPD Duo Overview

Let’s kick off this GPD Duo review by diving into the dual displays and the different modes it offers.

Opening the Duo reveals the two displays. Both the upper and lower screens can be adjusted independently to suit your preferences, and there’s a kickstand at the back for additional support.

When fully unfolded to the standard angle, the dual screen laptop stands about 13.7 inches (35 cm) in height.

It’s worth mentioning that in presentation and tablet modes, the top screen can feel a little loose. GPD has confirmed they’ll add a magnet in the final production model to address this.

Design and Features

The GPD Duo can support up to two additional displays through its USB and HDMI ports, allowing for a four-screen setup. Adding the GPD G1 eGPU docking station expands that capability to six screens.
